Grantham Specsavers come to the rescue Grantham Specsavers provide the vision for rally driver Simon Selby in the 2008 BTRDA Asphalt Rally Championship. Following an incredible championship win in 2006 driving his classic mini, against much more powerful modern machinery, Simon has been unable to compete in 2007 due to lack of funds to meet the high costs of competition. However due to support from Specsavers of The Isaac Newton Centre in Grantham, Simon is now in a position to compete in the forthcoming 2008 championship. The first round is in South Wales on the Brecon Beacons in March, and then there are five further rounds which will take him to Cornwall, the Midlands, Northumberland, and a return to Wales. Simon says “We can’t thank Bijal and Nigel of Grantham Specsavers enough for their support, they have provided the vision, now I have to provide the results. We have a lot to do in preparation for the first rally, as the car hasn’t been touched for almost a year, and needs a complete checkover. I am looking forward to getting back out there behind the wheel of my mini, as it is one of the very few still competing at this level of competition in the country, and I intend to demonstrate that the old mini can still beat all the modern machines.” Click here to view the 2008 BTRDA Asphalt Rally Championship |
